A.I. Unleashed: Predictions for UFC 291 by Artificial Intelligence

a UFC Octagon

With the recent explosion in popularity of A.I. language models like Chat GPT and Google Bard and their quick rise to prominence in the day-to-day world. We thought it was time for artificial intelligence to put MY money where its mouth is and begin predicting how fights will play out. Starting with UFC 291, I will ask an unspecified A.I. to predict a series of fights, place bets accordingly and track the progress to see if A.I. can do a better job with predictions than the pros. I may never financially recover from this.

Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje

Prediction: Poirier by decision

Reasoning: Poirier and Gaethje are both known for their exciting, high-paced fights. However, I think Poirier has the edge in this matchup. He's a more technical striker, and he's also better at defending takedowns. I think he'll be able to outpoint Gaethje over the course of five rounds.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Alex Pereira

Prediction: Pereira by KO/TKO

Reasoning: Pereira is a dangerous striker with knockout power in both hands. He's also shown that he can defend takedowns effectively. Blachowicz is a good fighter but not as well-rounded as Pereira. I think Pereira will be able to land a big shot and finish the fight early.

Bobby Green vs. Tony Ferguson

Prediction: Green by decision

Reasoning: Green is a more well-rounded fighter than Ferguson. He's a good striker and a good wrestler. Ferguson is a more aggressive fighter, but he's also more prone to making mistakes. I think Green will be able to use his superior striking and wrestling to control the fight and win a decision.

Stephen Thompson vs. Michel Pereira

Prediction: Pereira by KO/TKO

Reasoning: Pereira is a very unorthodox fighter with a lot of power in his hands. He's also shown that he can take a punch. Thompson is a great striker, but he's not as well-rounded as Pereira. I think Pereira will be able to land a big shot and finish the fight early.

Kevin Holland vs. Michael Chiesa

Prediction: Holland by decision

Reasoning: Holland is a very versatile fighter who can fight from both the standup and the ground. Chiesa is a good wrestler, but he's not as good at striking. I think Holland will be able to use his striking and wrestling to control the fight and win a decision.

Gabriel Bonfim vs. Trevin Giles

Prediction: Bonfim by submission

Reasoning: Bonfim is a very good grappler with a lot of submission wins. Giles is a good striker, but he's not as good at grappling. I think Bonfim will be able to take Giles down and submit him.

These are just my predictions, of course. Anything can happen in a UFC fight. But I think these are the most likely outcomes based on the fighters' skills and past performances.

UFC 291 will feature a rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje for the "BMF" title. The prelims will air on ABC, ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN+, and SiriusXM Fight Nation at 8 p.m. E.T. / 5 p.m. P.T. The main card will air on ESPN+ PPV at 10 p.m. E.T. / 7 p.m. P.T.
